Many of you may not have heard of the white wine grape variety Vermentino, also called Rolle in the South of France. We are featuring Vermentino for two very good reasons. The first is that one of our Partner Vineyards, the Domaine de Cantaussel, produces a splendid 100% Vermentino, VDP d’Oc which has really established itself as a favourite with Vineyard Partners Members, and Chateau St Jacques D’Albas has recently planted some Vermentino so we can look forward to tasting that in the coming years. The second reason is that Vermentino is now an increasingly fashionable grape variety in the UK. The dominance of Chardonnay as a white grape variety has already been challenged by Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio has risen up the ranks to be the grape of choice for many people. Like Pinot Grigio, Vermentino is a medium bodied variety, but has, in our opinion, more depth of flavour and character.
